Mainly coastal areas and limestone grasslands.

Along most of the coast of Ireland and also inland in the Burren.

Violet.

The wing pattern is similar to that of the Silver-washed Fritillary but the underside has spots rather than streaks.
This fast flier is rather uncommon in Ireland, mainly restricted to costal regions.
